Additional Relief to the Province's Most Vulnerable

Published on April 24, 2020

As we face some of the darkest times in our province's history, we have a duty to protect and care for the most vulnerable in our society. That’s why, as part of Ontario’s Action Plan: Responding to COVID-19, our Government is doubling Guaranteed Annual Income System (GAINS) payments to help vulnerable low-income seniors during the COVID-19 outbreak. On April 24, 2020, the Province is issuing the first doubled GAINS payments. Individuals will receive up to $166 per month and couples will receive up to $332 per month. These doubled payments will continue for six months and provide an additional $75 million to 194,000 vulnerable seniors who may need more help to cover essential expenses during these unprecedented times. During this difficult time, it is important that we protect our most vulnerable citizens. This relief will help with necessary expenses for thousands of low-income seniors as they manage the impacts of COVID-19.
