Treaties Recognition Week in OntarioPublished on November 02, 2020
Unfortunately, I will not be joining with Ogichidaa Francis Kavanaugh - Grand Chief Grant Council Treaty Three to visit a school in the Treaty Three area this year like we have done the past two years. We met at Evergreen School last year and Beaver Brae the year before. However, we are all paying great attention to being safe and secure through these pandemic challenges.
- Treaties Recognition Week is an opportunity to promote awareness and understanding of treaties that form the basis of the relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples.
- Recognizing the histories of treaties helps preserve Indigenous culture and traditions as we move forward together on the path to reconciliation.
- Our government is grateful to all the Indigenous leaders and educators who share their stories and perspectives each year.
Thank you for making an effort to learn this week and every week. Miigwetch
